Dear Member
It is with great pleasure that I introduce our Council for the Insurance Institute of Liverpool for the 2010 term. The main purpose of Council is to serve the local insurance community through a number of methods;
Professional Development
A scheme for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is arranged by Council to assist our local members to both fulfil and exceed the standards required of those working within the industry. In addition commitment to professional qualifications is given the utmost priority within council as it is recognised that by having a high calibre of members our industry will benefit the area as a whole. Bi-annual examination centres are therefore organised to facilitate this.
Lunchtime Lectures
A wide range of topical and informative lunchtime lectures are arranged for you to attend free of charge. I would urge all of you to make an effort to come along to these events which will cover matters of both industry and local interest, notwithstanding the fact you can enjoy the complimentary sandwich lunch also!
Social Networking
Historically the Liverpool Institute has always had a vibrant social scene and this is something myself and Council are keen to continue. This year we are looking to strengthen our ties with other professionals in the city so look out for some joint events. Also feedback on the success of the Golf Day in recent years has been overwhelming so expect this to continue in earnest.
Lobbying/Representing Local Issues Nationally
For the first time in recent years we are proud to be able to have a member of the National Council among our members, Mr Andrew Parkhurst. This will ensure that for any matters of local concern or interest a direct link with the National Council exists for us to utilise to the best of our ability.
Annual Dinner & Luncheon
The focal point in the calendar of most working in or with those in the Liverpool Insurance profession is that of the Annual Dinner. This will continue to take place at the end of January and like every year provides all of you with the opportunity to mingle with colleagues, business partners and fellow professionals. It also enables us to highlight those members who merit extra mention, and also announce our Young Achiever of the Year. Also on the calendar is the Annual Luncheon in October when you can meet with each other in a less formal atmosphere and celebrate the examination success of our members.
Charitable Benefits
The Insuance Charities continues to provide an invaluable service to those who need it most and as such your Council is committed to continuing their involvement there in the coming year.
Finally, I look forward to welcoming all of you to the above events throughout the year and around the city. Please do get involved as the strength of the local insurance is dependant upon it. We at Council are always committed to improving matters for our members and as such please do not hesitate to get in touch with any new ideas or suggestions.
Yours truly,
Simon Keenan
President of the Insurance Institute of Liverpool
